Japanese companies are advancing their interest in maritime and express railway projects in Vietnam, Fujita Takehiko deputy minister of Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism said.

Takehiko has met with Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Transport Ngo Thinh Duc, officials of Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) and Vietnam Railway Corporation (VRC) to discuss projects, including Lach Huyen port, and Cai Mep-Thi Vai port.

Up to 58% of Japanese firms surveyed by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) said they plan to expand their operations in Vietnam.

At end-November last year, Japanese companies invested in US$17.8 billion in nearly 1,200 projects in Vietnam, ranking the fourth among countries and territories. (Transport)
