Vietnam Business Forum had a talk with Ms Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet, Chairwoman of Song May Industrial Park Development Joint Stock Company, on advantages of Song May IP as well as efforts to support businesses operating in the industrial park.
Could you briefly introduce investment and business activities of your company in recent years? what are the advantages and difficulties?
Song May Industrial Park Development Joint Stock Company is principally involved in developing and operating industrial parks. In the past years, thanks to cares and supports of the governing People's Committee and concerned departments in Dong Nai as well as endless efforts of all staffs, we have achieved positive important results, especially in calling and attracting domestic and international investors. With its convenient location like lying inside the southern key economic zone, a strong local workforce and a complete infrastructure system, Song May Industrial Park (IP) has to date attracted 51 investment projects with a total registered capital of US$400 million and leased 134 hectares, or 80 percent of rentable area. With the desire of not only providing customers with just infrastructure, we have continuously captured customer needs to provide synchronous, complex products and services. Until now, Song May IP has provided clients with utility services such as offices for lease, green area care, security services and fire protection through which positively support and create momentum for enterprises to develop.
How has Song May IP project meant to the development roadmap of the company in particular and and Dong Nai in general?
Located in the southern key economic zone, Dong Nai is considered one of localities with a highest rate of urbanization and industrialization in the country. The province has many favourable advantages in terms of traffic and land fund for industrial development and receives strong supports from the central government. Thus, it gathers all necessary conditions to attract Vietnamese and international investors to spur its economic development.
Song May IP project is on the list of government-backed long-term infrastructure development priorities in important economic zones in the country to draw investment capital and technology from domestic and foreign investors for economic development in the country. In the past time, together with efforts of calling investment capital, Song May IP has created jobs for labourers in the province and in neighbouring localities. Besides, with a variety of production activities in the industrial zone to churn out goods for domestic consumption and export, Song May IP has exploited rich resources in Vietnam toward the direction of highest sustainability. From aforementioned inceptive effects, the Government and the provincial People's Committee allowed Song May IP to enlarge its area by 230 hectares. The expansion is underway and is expected to complete in 2010.
Would you mind telling preferential treatments for investors in Song May IP? Which fields are of priority?
In addition to government policies like reduction and exemption of corporate income tax, import and export tariffs and other duties under prevailing regulations, Song May IP also offers incentive policies of its own to lure investors. In particular, we exempt and reduce land rentals and technical infrastructure during the process of executing projects, but not exceeding six months, to create best conditions for businesses to invest in the industrial park.
In the light of the philosophy of “Production and business development must go hand in hand with environmental protection for the sake of sustainable development,” we always take environmental protection atop, apply measures to build a clean and green Song May IP and execute all environmental protection responsibilities before the community. Accordingly, we grant special priorities to investment projects with modern, environment-friendly, energy-saving production technologies.
Known as a successful businesswoman, it is little known that you are very responsible to your happy family. What is the secret for those successes?
Winning the “Typical Entrepreneur” title is very meaning to me. After 20 years of struggling with this fierce market, I am finally recognised as a true entrepreneur. The honour is becoming increasingly important as, if you know, I was previously a retired civil servant and I did business for the sole aspiration of escaping from poverty with my family.
When I return to my family, I get rid of all business affairs and concerns as I always try to become a responsible wife and mother. Colleague assistances also help me relieve working pressure to spend more time with my family. I am really indebted to them very much!
