Vietnam will take part in the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2011 (ATF 2011) in Phnom Penh capital city of Cambodia from Jan 15-21.

Under the theme “ASEAN – A World of Wonders and Diversity”, the event will be a golden opportunity for all participants to discuss measures to develop the regional tourism and to promote ASEAN, a world of wonders and diversity, as an attractive tourism destination.

The ATF 2011 will be also a great platform for both sellers and buyers to meet and exchange business through Seller-Meet-Buyer (SMB) and Buyer-Meet-Seller (BMS) sessions.

Launched in Malaysia in 1981, this annual event involves all the tourism industry sectors of the ten member nations of ASEAN: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The hosting of ATF is rotated among the countries each year.

ASEAN has emerged as the fastest growing market for Vietnam’s tourism. Vietnam, however, only ranks the fifth in the ASEAN bloc in number of visitors and revenues.

In 2009, ASEAN member countries received more than 54 million international travelers, a 7% on-year increase despite the global economic downturn. (www.vietnamtourism.gov.vn)
