Yen The, a mountainous district of Bac Giang province, has utilised all its resources to achieve remarkable socioeconomic growth. With the consensus of the Party, the government, unions and people, Yen The has overcome all difficulties to attain comprehensive development.
One year into deploying the socioeconomic development programme for 2011 - 2015, according to the Resolution of the 20th District Party Congress, the district basically achieved its development objectives. Luu Xuan Vuong, Chairman of Yen The People’s Committee, said: In a mountainous district, agriculture and forestry play a leading role. At present, we are instructing commercial agricultural and forestry development to achieve our major goals of food security and enhanced productivity of local plants and livestock.
Fruit, tea, tobacco and peanut areas have all increased productivity and output. The district has collaborated with Qseap Project Management Board and the Bac Giang Department of Agriculture & Rural Development to organise 52 training courses on technical production and 150 training courses on science and technology transfer. In addition, Yen The has coordinated with local businesses to effectively implement scientific and technical applications to cloning production of tea cultivation and processing.
Particularly, the Yen The hill chicken brand is being developed. Currently, the district is raising nearly 5 million birds – a major source of income for farmers. The chicken is highly appreciated for premium quality by consumers and is sold in large quantity. Identifying its strengths, Yen The plans to bring the chicken to supermarkets. The scale of cattle and pig husbandry and aquaculture are also gradually expanded; quarantine and epidemic prevention are boosted. The application of new techniques to intensive aquaculture production is bearing initial fruit.
To accelerate economic restructuring and increase the proportion of industry and service, for more than one year, the District People’s Committee has directed building and adding details to development planning for five industrial zones with a total area of 200 ha, attract 72 companies to invest in the locality, thus increasing jobs and incomes for local people in addition to speeding up economic development. Service activities like transport, commerce and telecommunications are developing well.
In the past time, the tourism sector of Yen The district focused carrying out the tourism development plan for the 2011 - 2015 period. The district has 74 historic sites, particularly Hoang Hoa Tham historic relic complex, with 9 monument sites recognised as special national relics by the Government.
To fulfil social security and economic development objectives, infrastructure must take a step forward. Therefore, Yen The district has taken advantage of investment capital from the State Budget to carry out key projects in the areas of transportation, irrigation, electricity, education and health, and allocated capital for communes and towns to implement their projects.
Being aware that the human factor is the key for socioeconomic development, district leaders have directed relevant organs to improve the quality of human resources and reduce poverty in a sustainable manner. To date, all villages in the district have cultural houses; trained employees account for 29 percent of the workforce; 41 out of 66 schools meet national standards; 20 out of 21 communes meet national healthcare standards; and the household poverty rate is falling.
