In the past years, Danang City has made proud achievements in urban infrastructure construction and development. Thanks to proper and timely care and support of municipal authorities and well-prepared construction of technical and social infrastructures, the living conditions of Danang citizens have significantly improved over the past years.
Mr Pham Viet Hung, Director of Danang Construction Department, said that the city has made many breakthroughs urban traffic system planning and construction, especially trunk roads. Some thoroughfares, with at least six lanes and separators, ensure traffic continuity and beautify urban landscape. Typical traffic routes include National Road 1A, Nguyen Sinh Sac, Nguyen Tat Thanh, Pham Van Dong, Dien Bien Phu, Nguyen Huu Tho, Le Van Hieu - Tran Dai Nghia streets, Son Tra - Dien Ngoc coastal road, and extended Nguyen Van Linh Street. Besides, the country’s first swinging Han River Bridge, modern-designed Rong, Nguyen Tri Phuong and Tran Thi Ly bridges form the new dynamic face of this young city in central Vietnam.

In December 2011, Danang officially inaugurated new terminals of Danang International Airport to serve 4.5 - 5 million passengers and 400,000 - 1 million tonnes of cargo a year. From 2015 onwards, Danang International Airport will be the country's third largest terminal after Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat international airports. The airport is expected to have an annual capacity of 6-8 million passengers.

The city has capitalised on the US-based Rockefeller Foundation’s aid to carry out hydrological model construction projects to pursue urban development in accordance with specific climate change scenarios, expanded restricted urban zones, and adaptation measures in order to mitigate impacts of flooding and rising sea levels to ensure sustainable development.

He said that in spite of being a central coastal city prone to devastating floods and storms, the municipal authorities place sufficient weight in growing trees and guide related units to deal with natural disaster aftermaths and improve living standards of citizens. The city approved a green urban development scheme for the 2011 - 2015 period which has detailed construction and fundraising plans

Together with that, the city’s clean water supply also produced good results. Danang is also very interested in building social and cultural infrastructures, healthcare facilities, schools and information technology infrastructure.

Like other localities in the country, despite huge progress, the city’s urban infrastructure development still fails to meet development requirements for the coming time as the pace of urbanisation is accelerating on a national scale. Infrastructure investment must be based on long-term direction, matched with local resources to guarantee development sustainability. To solve this problem, the State needs to have a mechanism to strengthen coordination among local agencies to shape urban infrastructure development and construction, ensure harmony with national objectives, and make focused investments.

Mr Hung said Danang City is rapidly completing its master development plan to 2020, with a vision to 2025, to submit to the Government for approval. Particularly, Danang will be developed into a clean and well-connected city.
