Cooperation for Northwest Tourism Development
The first Northwest Tourism Fair 2014 was recently hosted by Ha Giang province. This was a chance for eight northwest provinces to strengthen tourism development cooperation, expand and concretize action plan frameworks in the 2010-2015 period and cooperation plans in the 2014-2015 period.
The fair was an opportunity for the eight provinces to join efforts for the joint initiatives like Northwest tourism brand, Northwest arc programme, Return to the roots programme, Dong Van global geopark tourism programme to promote their social and economic development, cooperate in sustainable tourism development, protect and promote cultural values, and make the Northwest one of eight primary unique destinations in Vietnam.
Key activities of the fair included folk cultural festivals joined by eight Northwest provinces; a 30-booth show of traditional handicrafts, costumes and cultural artefacts; and a photo exhibition of Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark (Ha Giang province) and natural beauties in eight Northwest provinces. A symposium on tourism product creation was also held to seek measures to tap local tourism potential.
Shortly after the opening ceremony of the fair was the Folk Cultural Festival of eight northwest provinces. This was an opportunity for community-based cultural tourism villages to interact, learn experience, preserve and honour unique ethnic cultural values to serve tourism development. Traditional songs and costumes were also performed at the event.
Especially, the fair also organised a 30-booth exhibition of unique tourism products, traditional costumes, culture artefacts and cuisines of the Northwest. Many other events like a photo show and investment promotion conference were also organised.
