The organizing board for Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship 2015 (MOSWC), including Ministry of Education and Training, IIG Vietnam, the Military Telecoms Group (Viettel) and Youth Newspaper, recently held the kick-off workshop for the first MOSWC 2015 in the southern part of the country at the University of Social Sciences & Humanities , HCMC National University.
The MOSWC 2015 kick-off series will follow with the involvement of provincia Departments of Education and Training, universities, colleges and vocational schools all over the country until February 2015.
The Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship – MOSWC is the world’s largest competition on Microsoft Office skills, spanning over 100 countries. In Vietnam, MOSWC has now become the biggest national scale world class computer proficiency competition. Over 13 years of worldwide existence and a 5-year presence in Vietnam, MOSWC has truly presented itself as a largest intellectual playground around the planet, and an opportunity for students to demonstrate and mark themselves in the international golden record.
At the kick-off workshop, H.E. Nguyen Vinh Hien - Vice Minister of Education and Training said: “The Ministry of Education and Training gives high credit to the practicability and far-reaching social impacts of the competition, the great efforts of IIG Vietnam as the local organizing board in introducing the world’s largest computer proficiency contest to Vietnamese students, and paving the way for them to compete in the world finals in the US. What the event has done in the last five years indicates increasing numbers of participating competitors and educational institutions, with a growing proportion of school student participants, and the strong involvement of universities, colleges and local Departments of Education and Training.”
“This is evidence of amazing spillover effect that the event has created among Vietnamese students and the significant role of the competition in human resources development efforts in Vietnam. On top of that, the accomplishments of the Vietnam team in various MOSWC World Finals also help build a name for Vietnamese talents in the global intellectual arena”, stressed the Vice Minister.
MOSWC 2015 marks a major leap ahead of the event compared to previous years, where for the first time, some of the leading entities in terms of professionalism and capacity have joined forces to help orchestrate the contest, including the Ministry of Education and Training, Viettel – the country’s largest telecoms and IT business group, the Youth Newspaper and IIG Vietnam – the in-country representative of Certiport, a foremost educational testing organization in both Vietnam and the region. 2015 is also the first year the competition reaches out to all the 63 provinces nationwide and every university, college and vocational school in the country.
Mr. Tong Viet Trung, Vice President of Viettel Group informed: “While being a regular companion of the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship over many years, this is the first time Viettel actually participates as a joint organizer of this world’s largest computer proficiency contest. It shows how Viettel desires to create a truly intellectual and useful playground for students in Vietnam. Acting as a member of the organizing board is also part of Viettel’s strategy to integrate information technology and telecommunications in all walks of life, as we have high hopes that the very students who are here today in this MOSWC 2015 will make that strategy come true with us in the not too distant future. Evidently, over the last five years in the competition, the Vietnam team has proved what they can do over time among opponents from all over the world, by continuously earning high rankings for three years in international competition rounds. I hope that Vietnamese IT talents will shine even brighter at the MOSWC 2015 World Finals in the US and continue to honor Vietnam’s name on the international scoreboard”, said Mr. Tong Viet Trung.
At the primary-level round, municipalities and educational institutions will hold competitions to select their finest to attend the Semi-National round – the first round of MOSWC 2015. The competition also encourages and provides the best opportunities for independent candidates to attend by submitting a MOS score report stating 700/1000 points or higher and an application to the organizing board to be selected to the National round. Application to attend the Semi-National round will be accepted until March 28, 2015.

The fifty best performers from each category will secure a berth in the National Final with the MOS Expert and Scenario tests (MOS Specialist and Scenario are specifically applied for MS PowerPoint category). The top three scorers of the National competition from the three categories will be honored as Vietnam’s MOS Ambassadors and represent Vietnam to compete in the World Finals in Dallas, Texas, USA on Aug. 9 – 12, 2015.
