Starting with 20 employees and serving as a subcontractor for big companies, after nearly 8 years of operation, Hop Tien Co., Ltd has continuously developed and become a capable and reputable construction contractor for bids with strict requirements for quality.
Creditability built by work after work
Mr Le Tuan Tien, Director of Hop Tien Co., Ltd, said many professionals with rich experience in administering and undertaking important civil engineering and traffic construction tenders in the country gathered to set up a company in October 2007. With over 20 employees at the start, the company was mostly a subcontractor for big firms. Hop Tien undertook many projects in Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh and other provinces. With its experience, Hop Tien has gradually built up the credence of main contractors and investors. For that reason, Hop Tien is accessible to bigger projects.
With its highly qualified workforce and a modern construction machine and equipment system, Hop Tien has confidently taken on many important projects invested in Ha Nam province and administered by the Vietnam Road Administration. The projects undertaken by the company are always of high quality and meet the strictest requirements of every package. Typically, the surface and foundation repairing of Provincial Road 495 was highly appreciated by the Department of Transport of Ha Nam province and chosen as an exemplary work of the province.
In 2014, the company successfully repaired some sections on National Road 21 in Ha Nam province, carried out Package 10.2a - building stopover station on Cau Gie - Ninh Binh Highway - with a total investment capital of over VND60 billion (US$2.7 million). “Package 10.2a requires a rapid progress to be put into operation before the National Day, September 2, although traffic flows on the project site was very thick. But, with good calculation and harmonious coordination, the company absolutely guaranteed traffic safety and labour safety. The package was completed with the highest result in progress and quality.”
Particularly, for projects that Hop Tien partners with other big major companies to carry out, the company always ensures schedule, technical, aesthetic and quality requirements for the work it is in charge. The typical example was a section on the National Road 1A (km632 - km638, km641-km649 in Quang Binh province) with a total investment value of over VND200 billion (US$9 million). Director Le Tuan Tien said that these packages were rapidly executed to be completed in 2014 as scheduled. “Together with the guarantee of the most demanding requirements of projects, traffic safety and occupational safety are always our top priority and concern. Projects are absolutely successfully only when safety is assured,” said Mr Kieu Van Khuong, Deputy Director of Board 6 of the Vietnam Road Administration when he surveyed the company’s underway works in May 2015.
Director Le Tuan Tien said, with relentless determinations, the company's revenue in 2014 exceeded the planned target. The production value reached VND265 billion in the year, up almost 30 percent over 2013.
Enterprising investment
In November 2011, Hop Tien invested over VND10 billion to build an APC asphalt plastic concrete mixing plant in Ha Nam province to lay a stronger development foundation for the company. In November 2013, the firm carried out the second facility in Quang Binh province. So far, the company has invested VND120 billion for vehicles, equipment and machines. Hop Tien now has 60 full-time employees and 60 seasonal labourers.
The company will continue to invest in more modern machinery and equipment and strive to complete major projects as scheduled, including Hanoi - Bac Giang Highway (VND400 billion), and a section of National Road 1A in Quang Binh province. As of the end of the first quarter of 2015, the company fulfilled and even exceeded all targets set.
With the permit from the Ministry of Transport for pilot open-graded asphalt concrete with higher durability and abrasion than conventional concrete and particularly water-resistant surface, Hop Tien quickly cooperated with Taiyu Company of Japan to change its entire production lines and technologies from conventional asphalt plastic concrete production to open-graded asphalt concrete production.
With 20 percent of porosity, this concrete quickly drains water on road surface to both sides. Thus, the road surface will not suffer from standing water when it rains. This will help better traffic movement when it rains, particularly in the night time. Especially, with rapid water drainage, the roughness of road surface is assured.
The special component of open-graded asphalt concrete is 12 percent of additives: Hard, strong, tacking and compression-enduring TPS particles, which are not used in conventional asphalt concrete. Especially, with a thicker plastic membrane, the concrete is suitable for highways and urban roads because it can absorb noise.
Although technological changes cost a lot of money, it will help the company improve project quality. When it was used on Phap Van - Cau Gie Highway, it received good appreciation from domestic and foreign experts.
In the coming time, Hop Tien is planning to cooperate with some enterprises to carry out bigger projects.
