Vietnam's hospitality sector earned more than VND10.67 trillion (US$675.3 million) from tourism in the first four months of this year, according to statistics from Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT).
Of the total, revenue from foreign currencies amounted to US$505 million.
The figure resulted from the influx of international arrivals to the country during the period, posting a surge of 20.1 per cent over the previous year to 1.128 million, and the great number local visitors -more than 5.2 million.
VNAT forecasted that the figures promise an abundant yielding year, surpassing the whole year’s target of VND32 trillion (US$2 billion) including US$1.5 billion in foreign currencies.
Vietnam hopes to welcome 3.2 million international arrivals and 15 million domestic holiday-makers in 2005, earning on-year increases in revenue of between 10-15 per cent.
