Vietnam-China Business Meeting
On December 12, a delegation of 15 Chinese pharmaceutical businesses met with their Vietnamese counterparts at the VCCI head office in Hanoi. The visitors were mainly from the equipment sector such as dry freezing, packaging, distillery, sterilization, etc.
According to Mr Truong Quoc Cuong, Deputy Head of the Pharmaceutical Department, Ministry of Health, the turnover of the Vietnamese pharmaceutical market was US$707 million in 2004, and up 15 per cent in 2005. By 2008, the turnover is expected to be US$1 billion. 206 foreign companies have registered for the production of medicines and materials in Vietnam, including 22 Chinese companies with 4th standing.
Currently, China has four investment projects in the pharmaceutical sector. The turnover of Chinese pharmaceutical companies occupies only the 16th position and falls short of the potentials. Chinese equipment is of international standard and with reasonable prices. China has also successfully researched and produced vaccines against SARS and H5N1.
