Tourist guides are considered diplomatic messengers who bring our unique culture identities to the world. However, the role and the status of tourist guides have not yet received due attentions from the authorities. Thus, the establishment of a tourist guide service center will meet an increasing demand of tourists and give tourist guides reliable support.

According to the municipal Tourism Department, Danang city has a huge staff of 265 tourist guides, of whom 130 can speak English, 55 French, 32 Germany, 20 Japanese, 11 Chinese, 4 Spanish, 4 Thai, 4 Italian, and 4 Russian. These staff have satisfied not only travel agencies in the city but those in central regions and central highlands as well.

Once operational, the center will follow all regulations on rights and obligations of tourist guides which are specified in the Law on Tourism in order to protect tourist guides. Tourist guides are referred to as both international and local ones under the Article 72 of Tourism Law. Local guides only have rights to take care of domestic tourists but not foreign ones. In particular, tourist guides are required to have tourist guide cards and sign contracts with travel agencies.

As a result, the center has been established to give training courses to young tourist guides who lack experience. These young tourist guides will have opportunities to improve their own professional skills and enrich their experiences through practical tours.
