Two South Korean investors are seeking Vietnam’s permission for building a $22-million golf course complex on 200 hectares of land in Vietnam’s northern Ha Tay province.

The complex named "Sky Lake Golf and Resort Club" comprising of a 36-hole course, restaurants, and villas for rent in Chuong My district’s Van Son commune aims to service the increasing entertainment demands of both local and foreign tourists.

Under the first phase of the project, an 18-hole course and a clubhouse would become operational 20 months after the site is cleared and land lease procedures are completed.

Nguyen Van Tu, deputy Director of Ha Tay’s Planning and Investment Department, said that another South Korea enterprise was also considering building a golf course of a similar size in the province.

Three more courses are set to be opened this year including the Korean-invested, 56-hole Long Son course in Hoa Binh province, which will be the largest in Southeast Asia, Tu revealed.

Ha Tay, which is adjacent to Hanoi, already boasts the Dong Mo golf course, one of three that have come up in northern Vietnam.

By late 2005, Vietnam had 10 operational golf courses and 13 others under construction.
