Vietnam to Attend Int'l Tourism Festival in Germany

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) and 20 local travel agents are to participate in the International Tourism Fair in Berlin, Germany from March 8-12 this year.
 
Under the framework of the program, the communist country has registered a showroom covering 168 square meters to introduce the country, people and its land through the image of a 7m-high “Rong” (Communal House) in the Central Highlands.
 
Also, Vietnamese participants will attend tourism conferences, as well as hold a press conference to introduce its new slogan and National Action Plan on Tourism for the 2006-2010 period.
 
This year the fair, the world’s biggest annual tourism event, will draw the participation of 180 nations and territories all over the world.
 
The move has showed the country's determination to further make its contributions to local tourism development, an official from the VNAT said, revealing that VNAT has planned to spend VND20 billion (US$1.27 million) to promote Vietnam tourism's image worldwide in 2006.
 
Earlier, the VNAT launched a series of activities to promote its culture and gastronomy in Japan and India.
 
According to General Statistics Office (GSO), in 2005, Vietnam received around 3.34 million foreign tourists and 15 million domestic tourists, up 18.4 per cent and 7.6 per cent on-year respectively, earning revenue of VND30 trillion (US$1.91 billion), up 14 per cent against the year before.  

In 2006, Vietnam expects to cater 3.6-3.8 million foreign tourists and 16.7 million domestic vacationers with total revenue of VND36 trillion (US$2.28 billion), compared to 3.34 million, 15 million and VND30 trillion (US$1.91 billion), respectively, achieved last year.
