Hung Kings Worshipping Festival to Start on April 3
The northern Phu Tho provincial People’s Committee has adopted a plan to organize the Hung Kings Festival, one of the nation’s most important cultural and tourism events this year, from April 3-7 (March 6-10 according to the Lunar Calendar).
Under the plan, after the incense offering ceremony of Lam Thao district on April 5 (the eighth day of the third lunar month), the province will hold a solemn incense-offering ceremony in honor of the Hung Kings with the participation of State and Government leaders, representatives from ministries and agencies, as well as local people, on April 7 (the tenth day of the third lunar month).
During the festival, a wide range of sports and cultural activities bearing the traditions, as well as customs of Phu Tho and northern provinces will be held at the Hung Kings Temple, Lam Thao district and Viet Tri city.
Hung King Worshipping Festival, together with the Central Heritage Road, and the APEC Summit are the most important tourism events of the country in the year 2006, an official from the committee said, adding that preparations for the festival are underway and would be complete before the opening ceremony of the event.
Phu Tho province, 85 km northwest of Hanoi, has long been considered as an ancestral land of Vietnam. The Den Hung (Hung Temples) complex is closely associated with the legend of 18 Kings Hung who built Van Lang State, the first State of Vietnam, with Phong Chau as the capital.
