VCCI to Host National Innovation Summit for Vietnam 2006

In addition to the APEC Summit 2006 to be held in Vietnam in November, Vietnam will host the National Innovation Summit for Vietnam 2006. The initiative for the opening of this event was originated from the Common Declaration of the 13th APEC Conference in Busan, South Korea in 2006, which emphasised the importance of innovation and sharing in modern technology among member economies in the following years. The innovation and renovation is considered a major momentum for the development and strengthening of the competitive capacity of 21 APEC member economies. Hence, the Government has designated the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Posts and Telecom and IBM Group to organise this event.
 
The summit comprises of four major subjects:
Innovation & economic development: This subject will focus on the Vietnamese economic overview as a part of the global economy and the importance of the innovation in developing economy, commerce and investment.
 
Innovation infrastructure and skills development:This subject will analyse bases and foundation of the innovation, paying much importance to the role of information technology (IT), research and development (R&D) and human resource skill improvements. At the same time, several proposals will be put forward for this subject to develop innovation capacity for Vietnamese enterprises on the threshold of the international economic integration.
 
International approaches to innovation: This subject will provide different international approaches to innovation, encompassing Strategy and Approach from the world largest economy, the US. This subject will also provide innovation experience of Southeast Asian countries.
 
Innovation policy for growth: This is a general subject based on aforementioned subjects and put forward the Innovation Policy for Growth. This subject will analyse the readiness of Vietnam for the Innovation Strategy and discuss to present proposals for the construction of a sound strategy for the specific conditions of Vietnam. The cabinet, relevant ministries and local authorities, representatives of VCCI, IBM officials, international specialists and attending businesspeople will discuss and put forward ideas for the construction of the strategy.   
 
Attendants will meet, exchange and discuss related matters as well as build up relationship between State officials with the business community and scientists. Besides, VCCI will also organise a Declaration and Honouring Ceremony to honour exemplary Vietnamese innovation application enterprises, which are successful in encouraging and applying innovations in their companies and have reaped certain benefits. The ceremony to declare these highlights will raise the awareness of enterprises about the importance of innovation toward the development of enterprises, present successful models in applying innovations, and encourage enterprises to introduce and perfect innovation policies.
 
The National Innovation Summit for Vietnam 2006 is set to open on August 24, 2006 in the International Convention Centre, at 11 Le Hong Phong Street, Hanoi.
