British Firm to Build US$18Mln Five-star Resort in Hoi An

Britain’s Qudos Company has been licensed to build a five-star resort in Hoi An ancient town in the central province of Quang Nam, with investment capital of VND290 billion (US$18 million).
 
The Qudos Hoi An high-grade ecological tourism complex and five-star resort will cover an area of 8.5 hectares in Cam An ward in Hoi An town. The project is scheduled to be kicked off in 2007 and put into operation after 33 months of construction.
 
The investment license gives project duration of 50 years, during which the investor will enjoy incentives including exemption from corporate income tax for two years, and a 50 per cent tax reduction in the subsequent five years. In addition, the investor will not have to pay land leasing fees for the first three years after the complex becomes operational.
 
In the first two months of the year, Hoi An received 90,000 tourists, (80 per cent of which were foreign travelers), or a 40 per cent increase over the same period last year.
 
According to Dinh Thi Thu Thuy, Head of the Hoi An Trade – Tourism Division, the number of travelers staying longer in Vietnam has been increasing sharply.
 
Thuy said four-star hotel rooms now serve 45-47 per cent of total travelers coming to Hoi An, while high-grade hotels’ turnover accounts for 60 per cent of total accommodation.
 
The number of foreign tourists visiting My Son towers in Duy Xuyen district in Quang Nam province also reportedly increased by 45 per cent compared to the same period last year.
 
Hoi An Ancient Town and My Son Holy Land are two World Heritage Sites in Quang Nam.
 
Presently, Hoi An has around 1,000 ancient houses, and 16 tourist transport companies with a total of 65 four to 45-seat vehicles, 24 cruise ships and 10 high-speed ships. (Vietnam Economic Times)
