Vietnam Exports to Latin America to Soar 20 per cent This Year
Vietnam’s fast-growing economy expects to bag US$650 million from exports to Latin America in 2007, up 20.15 per cent on-year, said Ngoc Hung from the Trade Ministry’s Section for Latin America.
In January alone, the country’s goods shipment to the market were US$49 million, up 70 per cent on-year.
Vietnam will raise export turnover by expanding outlets in regional countries such as Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay, El Salvador and Colombia, as well as traditional markets of Argentina, Brazil and Cuba.
The country’s export staples to Latin American countries include rice, textiles and garments, leather and footwear, electronic and computer components. Other items such as wooden products, pottery, coffee and seafood have also recorded high growth rates.
According to the MoT, Vietnam can export 1 million tons of rice every year to the market, thanks to competitive prices and stable quality. Cuba alone needs to import about 500,000-600,000 tons of rice, in addition to 80-100 million garments yearly.
