US Considers Antidumping Tariffs on Three Vietnam Catfish Exporters
The US Department of Commerce (DoC) is reviewing antidumping duties on three Vietnamese tra and basa catfish exporting enterprises, according to the Vietnam Seafood Exporters and Processors Association (VASEP).
The review will be based on investigations of the three Vietnamese shippers' operations from Aug. 1, 2006 to Jan. 31, 2007, showing that the enterprises violated US regulations, said the association.
According to VASEP, the three exporters, which are Quang Vinh Fisheries Corp, Ngoc Thai Co. Ltd. and Anvifish Co. Ltd, had submitted documents proving that they had neither exported frozen "tra" and "basa" fillets to the US, nor affiliated with any Vietnamese exporters and processors who exported "tra" and "basa" catfish to the US during the time of investigation.
Meanwhile, the DoC rejected the Southern Fishery Industry Co. Ltd.'s request for a new review, saying the firm failed to provide documents on time and meet other requirements needed to qualify for a new review, added VASEP.
DoC will issue a preliminary decision in six months, and the final decision will be due in nine months, said VASEP.
In related news, prices of tra and basa catfish materials in the Mekong Delta have decreased by VND200-500 per kilo to VND16,800-17,000 per kilo, several weeks after reaching record prices. The price is forecast to continue to shrink in the coming weeks as local processing factories halt buying materials. (Vietnam Agriculture, Vietnam Economic Times, http://mfonews.net/news)
