Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung, in Hanoi on April 17, held talks with leaders of the world’s garment giants who have been attending the 17th International Vietnam Fabric and Garment Accessories Expo 2007.

During the talks, Mr. Hung said he hoped that through the exhibition foreign firms will continue to increase cooperation with Vietnamese partners in growing cotton, producing garment industry machines and equipment, training skilled garment workers and fashion design.

Andrew LK. Kay, General Director of the CP Exhibition Hong Kong Company and head of the delegation, said the expo has been held annually in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City since 1990.

This year the exhibition is organized in both cities, with hundreds of companies participating, he said, adding that this showed foreign garment groups’ increasing interest in the Vietnamese market.

The apparel industry is now Vietnam’s second largest forex earner, bringing export turnover of $1.65 billion in the first three months this year, increasing by 30.1 per cent on-year. The figure for the whole year is set to grow by 25 per cent to $7.5 billion. (Vietnam & World Economy, Liberated Saigon, VNA)
