HCMCity Strives for 3.65Mln Int'l Arrivals by 2010

Ho Chi Minh City, the most bustling city of Vietnam, has mapped out a plan to attract 3.65 million foreigners by 2010, up 37.7 per cent against this year’s set target, the municipal Tourism Service said.
 
The city also approved a tourism development plan for the 2007-2010 period, targeting six million Vietnamese travelers and tourism turnover of VND35 trillion (US$2.18 billion) by 2010, from VND16.5 trillion (US$1.05 billion) in 2006.
 
Under the plan, relevant departments are required to speed up investment projects diversifying tourism products and services at home and abroad.
 
The city is striving to put into use a number of major projects in 2007-2008, including a modern 92,000-sq.m terminal at Noi Bai international airport in Hanoi to receive 12 million passengers a year, and the expansion of the exhibition and fair center and Rex Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City.
 
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has highest number of luxury hotels in Vietnam with 150 hotels, including ten five-star and four four-star hotels with 10,000 rooms. The city also reports 304 travel companies, including 120 licensed to provide outbound tours.
The city expects to welcome 2.65 million international visitors and earn tourism revenue of VND19.5 trillion (US$1.2 billion) in 2007, up 10 per cent and 20 per cent on-year respectively. (VOVNews)
