Vietnam-China Forum: Seeking Cooperation Opportunities

Vietnam-China Forum was recently opened by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) to review activities in the first half of 2007. At the gathering, all members agreed that, although there were numerous efforts to boost cooperation between the two business communities, the forum needs to do many more things.

One reason for the dissatisfaction in forum operations is the thin workforce, the number of correspondents is small while the workload is suddenly heavy. Thus, the quality of information added to the Vietnam-China Business Gateway at www.vinachina.com has not been satisfactorily provided. In addition, coordination with governing people’s committees of provinces sharing the borders with China, as well as business associations and southern businesses, has not been intensified to expand linking operations.

However, it is undeniable that forum, one of many successful forums opened by VCCI, is an attractive and reliable address for Vietnamese and Chinese businesses. In the first half of 2007, the Vietnam-China Link organised many activities to intensify, exchange and seek business partners for both Chinese and Vietnamese companies. Especially, the www.vinachina.com portal transmits useful information for companies of the two nations. VCCI said the activities of the forum showed that China, including Hong Kong, is intensifying investment and commercial activities with Vietnam, especially after Vietnam became a full WTO member.
According to the Vietnam-China Link Management Board, many problems face Vietnamese companies doing business with Chinese partners, and one reason is their lack of market information for China. Vietnam China Link’s members want administrative procedures to be simplified, tax policies to be amended and related legal issues to be consistent, to serve Vietnam-China business exchange.

Vietnam-China Link will speed up market survey activities in 2008, particularly in surveying Hong Kong, Shenjuan, Zhouhai and Macau markets (in October 2008) and attending Xiamen trade fair (September 2008). Especially, the link will coordinate with the Chinese side to organise the exhibition “high tech - the pride of China and Vietnam” slated for January 2008.
