Vietnam is estimated to have shipped 344,000 tons of rubber abroad in the first seven months of 2007, earning US$659 million, down 3.2 per cent in volume and 0.3 per cent in value on year, said the General Statistics Office.

In July alone, the country exports 60,000 tons worth US$123 million, up 11.7 per cent and 12.2 per cent, respectively, against previous month.

Vietnam is expected to export 700,000 tons of rubber by the end of 2007, comprising 500,000 tons domestically produced and 200,000 tons imported from neighboring Laos and Cambodia, reported by the Vietnam Economic Times on July 26.

Experts forecast export price of Vietnamese rubber will rebound to US$1,900-2,000 a ton, on average. The country is expected that the price to China, who consumes over 60 per cent of its total rubber export volume, will stand at US$2,397 a ton. (GSO Jul Edition)
