Vietnam Exports 77,000Tons of Cashew Nuts in Jan-July
Vietnam, the world biggest cashew exporter, is estimated to ship 15,000 tons of cashew nuts abroad in July of 2007, bringing total exported volume in Jan-Jul to 77,000 tons, according to the General Statistics Office.
Total earning from the product in the first seven months is around $317 million, up 18.3 per cent on year and including $60 million in July.
Vietnam is expected to earn $560 million from exporting 140,000 tons of cashew nuts for the whole 2007, up 10.9 per cent and 10.2 per cent, from $506 million and 127,000 tons, respectively against 2006.
The country is expected to produce 500,000 tons of raw cashew nuts a year by expanding its total area to 450,000 hectares by 2010, from current 380,000ha.
It also plans to import 125,000 tons of raw cashew nuts from 2007 to 2010 for processing and re-exporting. Last year, it imported 40,000 tons from India, the world’s second biggest cashew nut exporter, and Africa.
The country stopped exporting raw cashew nuts to India since 1997. (GSO Jul Edition)
