Cua Lo Tourism: An Environment Friendly Programme
For decades, Cua Lo has been regarded as the key tourist centre of Nghe An province. It is most appropriate for sea tourism, rest and recreation.
Each year, Cua Lo receives some one million tourists with turnover of almost VND150 billion. It has rapidly developing tourist infrastructure and services. As of 2006, it had 202 hotels and guesthouses with staff of over 4,000 people in tourist season.
Together with development, local authorities have launched a campaign to protect the environment. All shops are equipped with garbage bins and cleaning every day. In 2005-2006, a programme was launched with “Five No’s”: No price hikes, No hecklers, No peddlers, No damage to the environment, and No disturbance to security and order. Cua Lo will continue the programme for many years to come, with more trucks and landfills in Nghi Huong and Nghi Yen. At Nghi Huong landfill, garbage is processed into bio-fertilizer and recycled plastic.
Cua Lo focuses on developing services and facilities with commercial centres, green parks, recreation centres, water supply and treatment. It will also develop areas for planting vegetables, flowers and bonsai.
The town has also a people centred programme of environment protection, providing knowledge, equipment and training, and combining tourism with environmental protection.
