Southern economic hub of Ho Chi Minh City will launch a Big Sale Month starting from September 1 to 30 to ignite a shopping spree and to help stabilize the market amid soaring price hikes, local trade official said.
Around 250 traders with hundreds of retail shops have registered to join the program with a total discount value estimated at US$2.1 million to date, said head of the city’s Department of Trade Pham Hoang Ha.
“The fact that enterprises discount prices by 5-50 per cent will make a great contribution to the price stabilization policy of the State. Additionally, it brings more benefits to customers and traders,” Ha said.
The program, to be co-organized by the municipal Departments of Trade and Tourism, will create an opportunities for local customers to have access to goods of travel service, fashion, consumption, home appliance, telecommunication, stationery, souvenir, cosmetics, jewelry and food.
Institutions taking part in the program will include big supermarket, shop, hotel and restaurant chains such as Saigon Coop, Maximark, Tax & Unilever, Saigontourist, Satra Group and Thien Hoa Shopping Center, and many retailers in the city.
Thien Hoa Shopping Center will mark down prices by up to 49 per cent for certain products and the total value of discounts at the shopping center during the month is estimated at VND400 million (US$25,000), said Nguyen Minh Thu, business and marketing director.
Meanwhile, the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV), will join the program by discounting retail banking service fees for local customers and granting charge exemption for new ATM users and fee exemption or reduction for Mobile Banking service, said official Do Van Thinh.
The program has been an annual event in Ho Chi Minh City since 2004, aiming to boost shopping and attract local and foreign visitors.
The city government has decided to choose September as a yearly promotion month.
Last year, the program attracted 300 enterprises which offered a wide variety of commodities and services like garments, home appliances, electric devices, cosmetic and travel services. (Saigon Times Daily, VNA)
