Vietnam, home to 44.4 million people of working age, sent around 55,500 workers abroad in the first eight months of this year, fulfilling 69 per cent of the whole year target, according to the Department for Overseas Workers Management under the Ministry of Labor, War Invalid and Social Affairs (MoLISA).
The figure marked the on-year increase of 11 per cent, the department added.
In August alone, Vietnam took over 6,700 laborers to foreign countries and territories. Taiwan was the top labor market of the country in the month with more than 2,100 workers. The runners-up were Malaysia with 2,100, South Korea with 1,100 and Japan with 397.
The decreased number of workers to Japan was allegedly attributed to the higher runway workers over the past year which has negatively affected the prestige of the country’s labor export sector, an official from the department explained.
The official, however, affirmed that the cloudy situation would be dispelled as Vietnam has regained confidence in Japan market thanks to stricter regulations to control and prevent runaway workers in recent times.
To date, Vietnam has sent more than 400,000 Vietnamese laborers to 40 countries and territories worldwide.
The country is striving to send more laborers to foreign markets in the upcoming time.
Presently, labor export activity brings in US$1.6 million to Vietnam yearly. (Viet Nam Economic Times Sept 5 p3, Investment Sept 5 p12, Vietnam Law
