The Vietnam International Communications Summit & Expo, known as Vietnam Comm 07, is set to be held in Hanoi City from September 19-22, 2007 by Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and Hong Kong’s Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd. Mr Bui Quoc Viet, director of VNPT Post Information Centre and vice chairman of Vietnam Comm 07 organising board, had a talk to correspondents on this event.
Would you mind introducing the theme of this event?
The Vietnam Comm 07 is themed Wireless and IT. Main contents as well as top concerns of authorities and society will be presented and exchanged at the incorporated conference, including broadband and wireless application in the future, GSM and the process of upgrading from 2G to 3G, wireless convergence and next generation network (NGN).
Why did the organising board name the event Vietnam Comm? What are the differences between Vietnam Telecomp and Vietnam Comm?
Vietnam Comm is held after Vietnam joined the WTO. This is the time many world-leading IT firms are waiting to approach and make investment decision and cooperation with Vietnam. Hence, the organisation board decided to name the event Vietnam Comm to emphasise the convergence of wireless, IT and telecom.
Vietnam Telecomp mainly focuses on telecom and electronics fields while Vietnam Comm 07 emphasises on wireless and IT applications. Vietnam Telecomp is held in even years and Vietnam Comm is opened in odd years. Besides, to enhance the exchange and sharing of experience, hi-tech and market development, Vietnam Comm 07 will be incorporated with conferences featuring concerned issues of both Vietnamese and foreign investors and enterprises, such as “which field will attract foreign investors?” “How are the human resources trained to satisfy the development requirement?”
In the telecom and communication correlation, how do you assess the development potentiality of technologies and services on GSM and CDMA mobile phone services and mobile communications means from now until 2010?
The digital industry and digital content industry has been organically getting closer and strongly correlating in the general development of IT, communication, telecom and electronics fields. In Vietnam, the most notable evidences are the development of electronics newspapers, digital television and added services on the GSM and CDMA mobile communication networks. Thus, it is very difficult to distinguish between contents and means and technological technology and information correlation establishment process.
In the information and telecom fields, the development potentiality remains enormous and telecom firms and mobile service providers using GSM and CDMA technologies will have many value-added services from their modern technologies and in accordance with technological trends in the world. Currently, GSM technology-based service providers are ready to upgrade to 3G technology while GDMA technology-based service providers are also ready to introduce value-added services.
In general, we are optimistic about the strong and dynamic development in the coming years because the growth of the ICT industry is very high in the past years. The investment capital of domestic enterprises and foreign firms into this market is soaring. This is good signal for the development of IT, communication, telecom and electronics fields of Vietnam in the following years, especially in terms of the integration, convergence and correlation between telecom with communication.
