Vietnam exporters shipped US$3.2 billion of footwear products in the past ten months, up 9.9 per cent on year, said the General Statistics Office.

In October, they shipped $280 million, down 0.4 per cent on year, due to negative impacts of antidumping duties by the EU, state media reported.

Early this year, the country reportedly gained revenues of $319 million monthly from footwear exports. It is expected to earn at least $800 million in the remaining two months to fulfill the yearly target of $4 billion.

To realize this goal, the Ministry of Industry and Trade asked the sector to boost production and lower offering prices to sharpen its competitive edges.

The country will invest VND600 billion ($37.5 million) three tanned leather processing centers in Hanoi, HCMC and Danang City to boost output and product quality, said the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association.

Vietnam targets to produce 720 million pairs of shoes valued at $6.2 billion by 2010, said Deputy Industry and Trade Minister, Bui Xuan Khu. (Vietnam & World Economy)
