Russia Starts Inspection on Vietnam Seafood Firms

A team of Russian inspectors has started its first tour in 2008 to 24 Vietnamese seafood companies in order to check hygiene conditions, after a meeting on February 18 with the Vietnam National Fisheries Quality Assurance and Veterinary Directorate (Nafiqaved).
 
The Russian Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Services (VPSS) will also visit 15 other companies who are desire for entering Russia market with pangasius and marine fish products.
 
The tour is expected to lengthen list of Vietnamese companies eligible to export seafood to Russia. 
 
At the meeting between the VPSS and Nafiqaved, the two parties evaluated the results and achievements after the Cooperation Agreement they signed November 2007.
 
Content of the inspection was discussed and complemented in compliance to new functions and responsibilities of Nafiqaved.
 
Russia was the second biggest importer of Vietnamese catfish last year, consuming 42,803 tons of products worth US$80.64 million. (Vasep, Labor)
