Vietnam, Thailand Seek to Boost Cooperation in Rice Export
The Thai Rice Exporters Association and the Vietnam Food Association will gather at in a meeting Thailand’s Foreign Trade Department will hold in Bangkok this week to discuss issues relating to rice prices for export.
Thai rice exporters propose at the meeting that the two sides will present their rice export quotas to ensure healthy competitiveness and bring about benefits to farmers in their respective countries.
The Thai Rice Exporters Association forecasts that the world rice prices are likely to reduce in the second quarter of this year after Vietnam harvests its winter-spring rice crop.
Therefore, Thailand and Vietnam, the world’s two largest rice exporters, need to work together to keep rice prices for export stable in the world market.
Export prices of Vietnamese rice are now some US$30-US$60 a ton lower than Thais rice, standing at US$400 a ton of 5 per cent broken rice last week. (Vietnam & World Economy, VNA)
