The number of foreigners working for companies in Vietnam reported an on-year rise of 35 per cent last year, according to recent statistics from the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA).

HCM City has drawn most foreign laborers to the country with around 2,500 so far. Of the figure, only 1,790 have been granted the labor license.

Most laborers come from China, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Australia and the UK, the ministry said, adding that foreign laborers are flocking to Vietnam to find jobs as they see potential employment opportunities.

In the third quarter of 2007, the number of foreign job seekers in Vietnam was 4 per cent higher than that of the same period of a year earlier.

The Vietnamese government has issued a new decree on recruitment and control of foreign workers in Vietnam. It is also working to streamlining foreign worker visa processing. (Laborers)
