Vietnam Needs US$13.8 Bln for Airport Development by 2020
Vietnam is estimated to need VND221.5 trillion (US$13.8 billion) for its airport development plan between now and 2020, the Ministry of Transport said.
Under the plan, the country will build 26 airports, including 10 international and 16 domestic ones.
In the first phase from now till 2010, Vietnam will require an estimated VND38.5 trillion, said the ministry.
Home to 22 airports, Vietnam is forecast to see 32.4 million passengers by 2020 from 14.5 million a year now.
An official from the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam said it is important to invest in airports as the country now accommodates some 40 airlines, including 36 foreign ones.
Meanwhile, a large influx of foreign airlines have been flocking to the Southeast Asian country to open their services, particularly budget firms, he added, noting that airlines active in the country are racing to open flights and offer attractive discounts for passengers. (VNA, Labor)
