Swing for the Kids 2008, the second annual golf tournament for charity purposes hosted by Vietnam Investment Review (VIR) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment, will officially open on June 14, 2008 at Tam Dao Golf Club & Resort, Vinh Phuc province.

This year’s tournament will tee off with the Shot-gun start format with the participation of 144 golfers, including governmental officials, diplomats, and businessmen in Vietnam and foreign countries.

Former Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Manh Cam, who acts as the Honorable President, and Minister of Planning and Investment Vo Hong Phuc will perform the first swings to open the tournament.

According to Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Editor-in-Chief of VIR, and Head of the tournament’s Organizing Board, apart from supporting community development activities by raising funds and scholarships for students and building schools in localities with difficulties, the event also creates good opportunities for businessmen across the country to further strengthen their cooperation relations.

Mr. Tuan focused that the organizing board this year expects to call up more sponsorships from kind-hearted business people and organizations to provide higher fund for the beneficiaries. Swing for the Kids 2007 raised around VND400 million (around US$24,000) from sponsors and the total amount was converted into 656 scholarships presented to poor pupils and students in 13 provinces and cities and five universities via Vietnam Education Promotion Fund.

Prudential Vietnam is the Diamond sponsor and Vincom Joint stock Company and Vietnam-Australia Steel Company are the two gold sponsors of Swing for the Kids 2008.
