A German news network “Fruchtportal.de” has run an article saying the European Union (EU) is emerging as a potential market for Vietnam’s flower, fruit and vegetable exports, the Kinh Te Viet Nam & The Gioi newspaper reported.

EU is a huge market for the products with total import demand reaching around EUR 30 billion (US$46.6 billion) annually, the newspaper said.

The Netherlands is opening a three-year training course to help Vietnamese vegetable exporters understand EU regulations and to increase their capacity in marketing their produces to the EU, the paper said.

A course with the same purpose will also be held for exporters from Ho Chi Minh City and the four southern provinces of Vietnam.

Last year, Vietnam exported US$300 million worth of fruit and vegetable exports to 50 countries over the world, EU’s 27 counties imported only US$90,000.

The country expected to increase the revenues to US$340 million in 2008 and US$700 million in 2010. (Vietnam & World Economy, Vietnam Economic Times)
