Official: Vietnam Needs VND1,000 Tln for Roads Development by 2020
Vietnam will require VND1,000 trillion (US$60.606 billion) to develop roads networks from now to 2020, or VND66 trillion (US$4 billion) a year, Mai Anh Tuan, vice head of the Ministry of Transport’s Road Administration was quoted as saying on Oct 22.
Of the sum, Vietnam will need VND22 trillion to build expressways a year, up from current VND10.045 trillion, and the government of Vietnam is prioritizing BOT, BT, BTO and BLT models for those roads projects within the master plan for road development from now to 2010 and vision 2020, Tuan was cited by the Dau Tu newspaper as noting.
By 2020, Vietnam will have 2.8 million-3 million automobiles, 33 million-36 million motorbikes and per capita income will be US$1,500-US$3,000, Tuan said.
Each year, about 1,000 kilometers of roads and more than 1,400 meters of bridges need maintenance and repair.
Vietnam has 256,000 kilometers of roads of different types including 200,000 km of urban roads, he added. (Vietnam Economic Times)
