The Haiphong Branch of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) has recently held an annual meeting with more than 1,000 northern coastal company representatives in Hai Duong city.

Attending delegates contributed many ideas and arguments to burning issues like capital source, administrative reform and site clearance. Mr Nguyen Nam Tuan, General Director of Ship Technology Partnership Company (Shiptech), complained that customs administrative procedure at ports were too complicated with many kinds of unnecessary papers. Ms Lam Hang, Director of Tan Vien Joint Stock Company, added that businesses hope the enactment of Decision 14/QD- TTg and Decision No. 131/QD- TTg will help enterprises to escape the financial storm.

Hailing constructive opinions from enterprise representatives, Dr. Vu Lien Loc, President of VCCI, concluded: “In 2009, the investment environment is forecast to be significantly improved and the Government is adopting many measures to assist enterprises. But in addition to external support, enterprises need to restructure their governance system and seek new development orientations and strengthen cooperation among transport service and capital providers. At present, two provinces have not had local business associations; namely Quang Ninh and Hai Duong. VCCI proposed the two provinces’ authorities to set up two local business associations to create a better bridge for businesses and authorities. Enterprises need to update information provided by VCCI to grasp provincial and regional economic situations to seek development opportunities.”
