EU, Vietnamese Firms Meet for Cooperation Opportunities

As many as 50 companies from European Union and Vietnamese firms joined a seminar in Hanoi March 11 to discuss economic cooperation chances.
 
The seminar entitled “Doing Business in Vietnam-What’s next” is part of a Mar. 10-13 visit to Vietnam by a delegation of businesspeople representing 60 companies from Belgium, Denmark, Greece and Spain.
 
While the Vietnamese side wanted to further study the EU market to export and import more its products. Currently, the Southeast Asian country mainly exports footwear, garment and textile products, wooden products and seafood to the EU.
 
At the meeting, the guests expressed their interest to export of industrial machines and equipment, medicines, garment and textile material, steel and fertilizer as well as technology transfer to Vietnam.
 
Participants also discussed a wide range of issues, including commercial policies and business opportunities in Vietnam, transport infrastructure development and planning, and Vietnam’s tax reforms, necessary to meet WTO requirements.  
 
The Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Le Danh Vinh said, Vietnam’s cooperative relations with the EU, particularly in economy, trade, maritime shipping, tourism and culture, is expected to develop rapidly in the years to come.
 
According to Vietnam News Agency, total bilateral trade between Vietnam and the EU has reached over US$76 billion over the past nine years. Of the sum, Vietnam exported goods worth US$50.4 billion to the bloc and imports products valued at US$26.1 billion. (News)
