Local Investor Plans VND500B to Build Cemetery in Hanoi
Binh Minh Construction and Tourism Joint Stock Company plans to build a VND500 billion (US$29.411 million) cemetery in the outlying district of Ba Vi in Hanoi.
The cemetery is expected to cover around 630,000 hectares in the four communes of Phu Son, Thai Hoa, Cam Linh and Vat Lai.
Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, Phi Thai Binh, said that this is the city’s key project, adding that officials in Hanoi will offer incentives for the investor to speed up the project’s implementation.
The committee has also asked Ba Vi District to arrange quickly the resettlement areas for households in the communes to complete site clearance for the project.
Finding “last resting places” for people is now a pressing matter for Hanoi’s authorities because all cemeteries are full. Encouraging cremation is now a temporary solution, Binh said.
The local government declared the closure of Van Dien cemetery, the largest in Hanoi, on July 1, 2010, the official said.
The city is considering building cemeteries in Phu Xuyen, Thuong Tin and Chuong My districts besides the Bac Son burial ground in Soc Son district. (New Hanoi, VietnamNet)
