Ho Chi Minh City has taken measures to boost the tourism development after negative impacts by the global economic downturn, said a senior official.
Deputy Director of the municipal Culture, Sports and Tourism Service La Quoc Khanh said at a recent meeting that 40 local hotels and 12 travel agents have agreed to cut tour prices to attract more tourists.
Earlier, the municipal tourism sector joined hands with the Agriculture and Rural Development Department to organize ecological tours in District 12 and Cu Chi District while tour operators are joining hands with foreign counterparts to arrange special tours for travelers.
Ho Chi Minh City welcomed roughly two million foreign tourists in the first nine months of the year, down 11% over a year ago.
It aims to serve about three million international visitors and earn revenue of VND34 trillion in 2009.
The sector is expected to lure more holiday makers from Europe, the U.S. and Japan back to Vietnam as well as domestic tourists from now the year-end. (VNA)
