Vietnam Agro Materials Import Sharply Falls in Jan-Oct

Vietnam is estimated to have spent $ 4.37 billion on importing nine major agricultural materials in the first ten months of 2009, with sharp decreases in almost all of products, the Government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said.
 
Among them, imports of animal feed, vegetable and animal oil, timber and woodworks and fertilizers saw the sharpest drops, the GSO said.
 
Between January and October, imports of animal feed tumbled 87.3% to $198 million, vegetable and animal oil dropped 29% to $404 million from a year ago, while imports of timber and wood products fell 24.1% to $722 billion, and fertilizers fell 18.1% to $1.144 billion.
 
The country also witnessed a decrease in pesticide imports by 11.6% against the same period last year to $367 million, and seafood imports were down 11.2% to $230 million.
 
The GSO’s figures also showed that imports of milk decreased 9.5% to $404 million, paper- down 3.9% to $109.9 million.
 
Meanwhile, imports of wheat rose 8.8% in value to $286 billion, according to the GSO. (GSO Oct Edition)
