The Ministry of Finance has issued a particular regulation on imposing import tariff on used cars, which will take effect from January 1, 2010.
Under the regulation, the below 15-seat old passenger cars (including driver) are subject to Category 87.02 and 87.03 levied with the absolute import tariff pursuant to the Decision 69/2006/QD-TTg dated March 28, 2006.
Over-16-seat cars (including driver) of Category 87.02 and less-than-5-ton light vans of Category 8704 are imposed with the preferential import tariff of 150%.
Other kinds of cars belonging to Category 87.02, 87.03 and 87.04 suffer the preferential import tariff higher 50% than that on preferential import tariff of the same kinds of cars.
The preferential import tariff is not applied on sets of CKD automobile components of Category 87.02, 87.03 and 87.04.
Under current rules, the below 5-seat used cars with the cylinder capacity of less than 1,000cc is levied with the absolute import tariff of $3,500 per unit, 1,000-1,500cc at $8,000 per unit, 1,500-2,000cc at $12,000/unit, 2,000-2,500cc at $17,000/unit, 2,500-3,000cc at $18,000/unit, 3,000-4,000cc at $20,000/unit, 4,000-5,000cc at $26,400/unit and over 5,000cc subject to the absolute import tariff of $30,000/unit.
The 6-9 seat old cars with the cylinder capacity of below 2,000cc will be imposed with the absolute import tariff of $10,800/unit, 2,000-3,000cc at $16,000/unit, 3,000-4,000cc at $19,000/unit and over 4,000cc at $24,000/unit.
The ministry is also mapping out a circular on raising automobile ownership registration fee to 15% next year from the current 10%. (Labor)
