MobiFone Starts 3G Service in Vietnamfrom December 15
MobiFone, a unit of Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), has started providing its third-generation (3G) services from December 15 and become the second mobile network to provide the services in Vietnam.
Four 3G services are now available for MobiFone subscribers, comprising Video Call, Mobile Internet, Mobile TV and Fast Connect for broadband internet services.
To attract 3G clients, the company will halve charge for Mobile Internet and Mobile TV services, exempt 6-month charge for FastConnect FC2 package, and apply the same charge on VideoCall service as normal calls.
The operator will provide the services to 52% of Vietnam’s population and 100% populous urban areas nationwide, with 2,400 3G base transceiver stations.
MobiFone has also signed deals for 3G roaming service with other 50 networks in the world.
On the same day, MobiFone launched a portal for 3G subscribers at www.wap.mobifone.com.vn
VinaPhone is the first local mobile operator to roll out its 3G network in October. Viettel may also enter the market within this month. (Post)
