VinaPhone, a subsidiary of Vietnam Post & Telecommunications Group (VNPT), will start providing 3G international roaming service in 2010 after it joined the Conexus Mobile Alliance in November.

This is the commitment made by the Vietnamese mobile network when joining the alliance; accordingly, subscribers of VinaPhone can use SMS and GPRS services provided by other member networks of Conexus.

VinaPhone’s users will be permitted to use 3G services provided by all the other members of the alliance when the roaming service is launched early next year, the VinaPhone said on its website.

So far, VinaPhone has connected with some networks such as NTTDoCoMo, StarHub. The company’s subscribers will benefit by its Conexus membership through preferential pricing.

Customers from all of Conexus’ 11 members will be charged a flat rate of US$0.2 per SMS when roaming within the network.

Conexus, set up in April 2006, has 11 members from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, India, the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam. It was formed to develop and enhance international roaming and corporate mobile services. (Vinaphone)
