Hospitability Market Needs Better Mix

This is the remark made by Mr Mauro Gasparotti, CBRE Vietnam Manager of Hospitality Service.

He said the hospitality business in Vietnam had changed since the global economic crisis with clients becoming more demanding as more options become available. New projects either under construction or near completion will have to face fiercer competition and more sophisticated clients compared with the past.

Mr Gasparotti said these changes would not necessarily imply higher prices and construction costs, but a better mix of design, quality, prices and services made possible by clear, meticulous and better informed development planning, something rarely seen before in Vietnam. Additionally, room size, design and other amenities are also important elements but several investors seem to overlook.

Robert McIntosh, Executive Director of CBRE Hotels in the Asia Pacific region, said: “Standard hotels and accommodations in Vietnam are still independently operated with limited management system, weak trademark or nonstandard designs or services. I have seen several project developers change designs, operators or delay inauguration. This takes them more costs and affects their profit as a whole.”
