Vietnam Licenses 14,396 Foreigners to Trade Shares at End-July
Vietnam Securities Depository (VSD) said on its website that it granted codes for 14,396 foreign investors to trade local shares as the end of July, rising 5.95% from end-2009, including 1,335 institutions and 13,061 individuals.
In July, 14 new institutions and 109 individuals received the trading codes, compared to 26 and 122 in June, respectively.
Foreign portfolio net inflows to Vietnam was $260 million in the first seven months of this year, after giving in $1.017 billion and drawing out $755 million, the Sai gon Giai phong newspaper reported, citing the latest figure from the Ministry of Finance.
Overseas investors made a net buying of VND7.49 trillion ($392.3 million) worth of shares on the Hochiminh Stock Exchange between Jan. and July, including VND566.42 billion in July.
The VN-Index declined 0.09% in the first seven months of this year, after falling below the 500 threshold at 493.91 on July 30. (www.vsd.org.vn)
