Vietnam licensed 50,000 companies with a combined registered capital of VND291 trillion ($15.24 billion) in the first seven months of this year, the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) said.
The figures rose 4.16% and 40.17% from a year earlier, respectively, the ministry added.
In July, the country licensed 7,000 enterprises with a total registered capital of VND40 trillion, the MPI added, noting that the increase in the number of new businesses is a good signal for the Vietnamese economy’s recovery.
The Southeast Asian country licensed 83,000 companies in 2009 despite the global economic downturn and it expects to have 540,000 businesses by late this year.
At the end of 2009, Vietnam had around 460,000 companies, up to over 90% of those being small and medium-sized enterprises. (Investment)
