Foreign donors are expected to provide VND6.3 trillion in official development assistance (ODA) for Ho Chi Minh City next year, rising 34.04% from a year earlier, Party Committee Secretary Le Thanh Hai said at a recent conference.

HCM City has disbursed VND3.6 trillion so far this year, or 75% of the pledged ODA this year, said Mr. Hai.

The city now has 24 ODA-funded projects with combined capital of VND59 trillion, Hai added.

HCM City’s gross domestic product is estimated to rise 11.5% on-year to VND418.068 trillion (US$21.44 billion) this year. Retail sales and service revenue have increased by nearly 12% this year while industry and construction are up 11.3%, he noted.

The conference discussed improvement of goods and service supplies, and distribution networks to stabilize the market. The Party leader also looked into traffic congestion, flooding, road surface subsidence and environmental pollution.

Ho Chi Minh City has attracted 331 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects totaling US$1.69 billion since the beginning of this year, rising 2.8% and 110%, respectively, from a year earlier. (STD)
