WB Affirms More Aid for Vietnam Next Years

The World Bank (WB), the biggest donor for Vietnam, will provide more official development assistance (ODA) for the Southeast Asian country in the coming years, WB Vice President cum Chief Lawer Marie Leroy said.
 
Marie Leroy made the commitment at a recent meeting with Vietnamese State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Governor Nguyen Van Giau.
 
The WB hailed Vietnam achievements in economic development and poverty reduction; however, the country must make its efforts in effectively using the funds in the years to come in move to gain beliefs of foreign donors, including the WB, Leroy said.
 
Vietnam highly appraised the WB funds and its role in calling on other donors to support it, Giau said, expecting that the WB will continue providing assistance for the country from International Development Association (IDA).
 
By end-August, the WB provided a total of $9.83 billion in ODA for 92 programs and projects in the Southeast Asian country.
 
The WB has pledged around $2.6 billion in ODA for Vietnam next year and also announced to finance over $6 billion for the country in the 2011-2013 fiscal years. (Banking Times)
