Foreign direct investment (FDI) has proven its important contributions to the economic growth of Bac Ninh province in the past years, and DK UIL Vietnam Co., Ltd is a significant contributor. Vietnam Business Forum interviewed CEO Park Ki Won to learn more about DK UIL Vietnam’s business operation in Vietnam. Duy Binh reports.
Could you tell us about some notable achievements of the company last year?
DK UIL Vietnam Company manufactures telephone parts for Samsung. Starting operations in December 2010, the company’s production output and profit in 2011 and early 2012 were not very impressive. In the second half of 2012, with the surge in Samsung’s mobile phone production, DK UIL Vietnam’s production and profit also increased as a result. The profit was humble last year, it was considered the first success for this newcomer in Vietnam’s market. The company has gained valuable experience, including opportunities to cooperate with many new partners and build up the foundation for the company’s future development.

Professional governance, product and service quality improvement, and corporate culture construction are basic conditions for any company to assert its name. How much attention have you paid to these factors?
Our parent corporation in South Korea has more than 30 years of experience in manufacturing telephone components. At the Vietnam branch, Korean managers are the corporation’s outstanding figures with at least 10 years of experience working for the South Korea-based corporation. Thus, we have the basic understanding of professionalism and quality management. For us, customer satisfaction is the ultimate objective. And, we have received a lot of praise and recognition from customers. Although Korean and Vietnamese cultures are quite different, South Korean managers and Vietnamese staff always try to understand each other and overcome cultural differences.

Manpower is considered the key to the success of any company. Would you please tell us about your human resource management?
As mentioned above, every division is led by an experienced Korean manager. Every manager is not only responsible for his/her own division, but also has good cooperation and coordination with others. But, the manager only cannot assume the entire job and he/she needs Vietnamese assistants. We always reward excellent employees. As we have just started our operation for two years, we need more time to show our capability. But, in general, our human resources are professionally trained. Workers with excellent performance, many initiatives for better production efficiency and workplace are encouraged and perhaps promoted to leaders. Well performing leaders will be sent to the South Korea-based corporation to acquire more knowledge and experience. And, our company is also studying new methods to encourage and promote employee capacity.
