As one of the leading companies specialised in forest planting, exploiting and forest product processing, Lao Cai province-based Bao Yen Forestry Co., Ltd always focuses on planting forests to ensure sufficient supply of materials for production facilities and stable employment for workers.
Director Do Van Dung of Bao Yen Forestry Co., Ltd said investment for forest planting and material development is a major task of the company because making base paper and chopsticks for export in large volume needs a lot of materials. In 2012, the company planted 1,000 ha of production forests, exceeding 101 percent of the plan.

By promoting many-year reforestation strategies, the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of Bao Yen Forestry Co., Ltd have introduced a lot of solutions to accelerate and complete forestation plans. Accordingly, the company asked the villagers to register forest planting plans to have rational allocation plans. Most farmers have registered forest planting plans, led by villagers in Bao Ha commune with 120 ha registered, Thuong Ha commune with 110 ha, Cam Con with 95 ha, Minh Tam with 50 ha, and Xuan Hoa with 45 ha.

From the registration plans, the company prepared enough seedlings (2 million trees) for farmers and sent technical staff to assist farmers to prepare soil, planting plans and forest protection. Together with that, the company has zoned forest areas into three clusters, namely Nghia Do - Vinh Yen - Tan Tien cluster, the cluster in the south of Highway 70 (including Viet Tien, Long Khanh, Long Phuc and Xuan Thuong communes) and the cluster in the north of Highway 70 (Yen Son, Cam Con, Minh Tan, Thuong Ha, Dien Quan and Tan Duong communes). Besides, the company informed farmers of tree supply plans, thus, there was no supply shortage during planting time. In the peak time, the company used 4 - 5 trucks to carry seedlings to farmers.

Forest planting is a hard work in the region. Sometimes, farmers cannot plant trees because of hot weather and low humidity. Hence, the company guided farmers to hasten planting whenever there is high humidity and rain. By mid-June, the company designed 862 ha of forest land, planted trees on 370 ha, and scheduled to plant 600-700 ha at the end of June and fully cover the land in October.

Although forest planting has reached just nearly 50 percent, many farmers registered to grow more. Villagers in Kim Son, Bao Ha and Cam Con communes registered to plant another 120 ha. Farmers in Xuan Thuong commune alone registered to plant 50 ha more. For this reason, the company has asked the provincial government to give another 200 ha of forest land to the company for forestation. This is a good signal for forestation in the coming years.
